If you have just started a move to offshore outsourcing model, or consider extending a current outsourcing engagement with new tasks, functions or a project given to a new vendor, we recommend that you begin with a pilot project. Optimal size of a pilot project is small to medium (five to fifteen person-months). Project scope should not include mission-critical tasks of your company.

The main tasks of a pilot project

Besides its obvious goal to deliver a target solution, a system, or a service on time and within the budget, there are the following additional general tasks of a pilot project:

  1. Carefully build a comprehensive technical and organizational environment
  2. Implement efficient project management policies and procedures to measure and control the results of outsourcing projects
  3. Establish effective communication channels with a vendor
  4. Prepare resource base for a large-scale projects
  5. Train your internal team

Before the project starts, our consultants together with your specialists will create a detail short-term project plan, define roles and responsibilities at both sides, agree with you on the project management and communication policies, tools and procedures, set performance targets, and agree on the contract terms (SLA, SOW). After the completion of a pilot project, we will gradually extend the scope of work over the time, making sure that you fully realize offshore outsourcing benefits and receive the highest possible ROI.

Additional reasons to start with a pilot project

  • Your company is unfamiliar with outsourcing, you need to establish an environment for it and implement additional internal policies for full-scale outsourcing projects in the future
  • You need time to optimize internal communication, control and reporting business processes and  train your employees that will directly work with outsourcing vendor
  • It is the first time you engage an offshore vendor; you have to prove your choice of this particular vendor and check its ability to perform
